Acres of lush green gardens, the peace and quiet of the Hampshire countryside and the opportunity to sip champagne poolside are just a few things that keep me going back to Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire time and time again. I’ve had the pleasure of attending 2 spa days with 1 overnight stay and it’s just one of those hotels that truly feels like a retreat each time; a luxurious break for the mind and body. Time to recharge.
I was recently invited back to experience the hotel’s newest spa treatment, the Beeutiful Body Candle Massage which was – hand on heart – the best massage I’ve ever had in my life. So good that 60 minutes (!) felt more like 6 and when the masseuse gently told me that it was over, I was genuinely upset. So good that it seemed like the only apt title for this blog post. So good that I have thought about it many times since. Details on said magical massage to follow later.
I brought my Mum along to enjoy the day with me. Having only ever visited the Four Seasons Hampshire property with her, it’s become a sort of tradition that when we’re both in need of a little rest and relaxation, we’ll book a day (usually a Sunday, weeks if not months ahead of time) in the diary and do nothing but unwind – read, sip champagne, catch up. It’s our little treat.
We arrived late morning, a little later than planned because packing for the day (I couldn't possibly have left without a change of clothes, 3 books, my diary, laptop, various device chargers and the kitchen sink) took longer than anticipated. We walked through the door, swiftly packed our things into a locker and slipped right out of our clothes, into a robe and walked through to the spa where 2 lovely ladies were waiting to drizzle candle wax over our half-naked bodies. Yes, really.
And it was divine.
The Beeutiful Body Candle Massage is Four Seasons Hampshire's newest seasonal therapy, a 60-minute treatment that guarantees deep relaxation and reduced stress levels (can confirm). The Spa have teamed up with a local beekeeper and founder of natural skincare line Beeutiful to create an exclusive full-body massage using the brand's Rose Spice body candle made from natural beeswax. A combination of soy, coconut oil and rose and frankincense essential oils is melted and drizzled over the body then massaged into the skin using gentle strokes to moisturise and soothe muscle tension. One word: HEAVEN.
I don't know whether it was the sweet rose aroma, the warm mood lighting in the treatment room or the gentle strokes of the masseuse's hands but I'm quite sure I dozed once. Possibly twice. I don't think I have ever felt more relaxed.
We headed straight to lunch afterwards, lured outside by the prospect of sipping champagne in the sunshine. The Spa's cafe, Café Santé, has to be one of my favourite places to eat. With a separate veggie and vegan menu and a variety of gluten-free dishes (I always have the warm bread rolls with olive oil and balsamic when I visit), I'm never short of options to choose from. All of their dishes are made fresh with seasonal ingredients and they're always so flavoursome and filling.
We spent the rest of the afternoon sitting (the preferred position after one too many bread rolls and a hefty slice of chocolate cake), reading, chatting and to put it simply - doing nothing. Between the light Summer breeze, the gentle hum of the jacuzzi bubbles and the tall champagne glass in my hand, it very much felt like a scene from a movie.
Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire will always be my favourite little country escape, far enough away from the city to feel like a retreat, close enough for when you can't afford the time to travel further. It's secluded, it's beautiful and the hospitality is second to none. I'd say it's even worth travelling back from Manchester for.
A huge thank you to Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire for accommodating us on our wonderful spa day.
