So seeing as the SS16 collections will be showcased at Fashion Week in a matter of weeks (help – someone get me a planner and a litre of coffee!), I thought I’d better show you what you can expect from Autumn/Winter fashion, which is slowly creeping onto the shelves already.
A couple of months ago, I attended the House of Fraser press day and had the pleasure of wandering around their South London showroom nibbling on delicious canapés and poring over next season’s trends. Trust me, it’s pretty strange to walk into a showroom when it’s 25 degrees outside and be presented with a room full of jumpers, oversized coats and (faux) fur stoles. But hey, that’s how the fashion world works!
So what can you expect to be buying over the colder months? Think clashing textures, loud prints and oversized tailored staples. Pair a shaggy knit with a suede midi-skirt, a cropped fur coat with leather trousers or cinch in a long bouclé coat with a knotted wool belt. Contrast fabrics, clash textures and mix prints to your heart’s content. Anything goes this Autumn/Winter.
And the accessories? Studs, zips, pockets in unexpected places and appliqué all make an appearance. Faux fur too – whether in the form of a glamorous stole (I’m lusting after the grey one pictured above) or a quirky clutch. But structure is key. Expect to see square shoppers, winged totes and box bags.
Summer’s love affair with pastels continues (much to my delight) but A/W introduces a few brights – a bold orange knit or a statement red bag. Rather than pick a team, instead fuse two ends of the spectrum and opt for vibrant accessories with a pale jumper or a candy-coloured tote bag with a striking skirt. Have fun – that’s what fashion’s for!
I can’t wait to see the SS16 collections in September but right now, I’m just excited about chunky knits and boxy wool coats. Hot chocolate anyone?
Love, Beth xo.
