“I have always believed that exercise is the key not only to physical health but to peace of mind.” Nelson Mandela

I’ll be the first to admit that I hated PE at school. Puberty just made everything so awkward; the judgemental looks in the changing rooms, the hideously unflattering sports kit and the gawking boys who lived for Summer when tight cycling shorts were uniform. Just the memory makes me squirm. And yet now, exercise is a huge part of my life. It’s become a part of my regular routine and actually, a part of who I am.
I can’t remember when exactly I first opened my front door and pounded the streets for the very first time. But what I do remember is the feeling; the fresh air on my skin, the wind whipping through my hair and the movement of my muscles giving me freedom to just run, to wherever my feet wanted to take me. It was a feeling of empowerment, of being completely free of stress and responsibility. And I knew in that moment that exercise was my therapy – that I could run, move, sweat and shed all anxiety.
And not only does it relieve stress, it makes me happy. When there are beads of sweat gathered round my hairline, trickling down my face, I feel so alive. The endorphins make me feel as high as a kite and I find myself smiling without reason. I forget what I was fretting about just half an hour ago and let that feeling of strength, of power and of happiness just wash over me. I bask in it, wishing it would last forever. And so the next day, or perhaps the day after that, I’ll exercise again – longing for that surge of energy and euphoria. And though I will always love to run, I too love circuits, lifting weights and just stretching – anything that gets me moving makes me feel alive.
So when Elle Sport approached me about their new Mantaris activewear collection, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on some key pieces and share my passion for fitness here, with you. Though my love for exercise is eternal, my workout wardrobe has never received the same affection. Faded vest tops and old leggings that quickly lost their shape were all I had before I received this gorgeous set. It fits like a dream, it’s stylish and if anything, it motivates me to work out more because I feel so good wearing it. Those old leggings and cami tops? I’ve thrown them out – along with all my excuses for not squeezing in just 10 minutes of ‘me time’ – to move my body and calm my mind.
