Quite often, I get asked which mascara I use (my lashes are quite naturally long and black) and over the years, my answer hasn’t once changed – it’s always been L’Oréal Paris. Some of my very first makeup was from the same brand and the smell of their lipsticks is one that I will always love – and one that will always make me just a little bit nostalgic. So when L’Oréal Paris got in touch and asked me to trial their new Makeup Genius app, you can imagine how excited I was.
I have to admit, I was also a tiny bit sceptical. The app claims to let you ‘try on’ makeup and experiment with a number of different products and ready-to-wear looks, as created by the brand’s makeup designers (and worn by a whole host of their stunning celebrity ambassadors). The first thing that came to mind was those makeup computer games (yep, we’re talking PC CD-ROM discs) that were around when I was younger, where you’d use the mouse to paint lipstick on the faces on the screen. Well thankfully, it’s nothing like that. The app is really intelligent, scanning your face and adding the different products exactly where they’d sit on your features – allowing you to trial makeup looks that you might be a bit hesitant to try in real life. Like a virtual mirror, the makeup moves with your face and expressions. Oh and the photo where I’m holding my phone up and it looks like I’m taking a selfie? I’m actually not wearing any makeup at all, I just selected one of the looks to try on from the gallery – Cannes 2015: Eva Longoria Look 1.
As this was my favourite look in the app, this is the one I wanted to recreate myself, using the recommended L’Oréal Paris products. I knew that if Eva wore this makeup in Cannes, it was going to be a pretty bold and striking look.
I started by applying my usual base before dusting my eyelids with Color Riche eyeshadow in 204, a beautiful warm shimmery nude. To line my eyes, I used the gorgeous kôhl eye pencil along both my top and bottom lash lines, sweeping out to create a subtle wing in the corner. Although I don’t usually, I also applied the liner on my waterline as it creates a more striking look and makes my eyes pop. To get lashes like Eva’s, I applied a generous coating of Volume Million Feline Lashes mascara which with a curved brush, allows you to coat the full length of your eyelashes in one movement. Though I have to admit – I applied a lot – big lashes are my ‘trademark’!
To finish, I used the Color Riche lipstick in 303, a soft rose pink with a lovely pearlescent tint. This is definitely the perfect lip for golden/bronzed makeup – whether it’s for a red carpet evening event or (for those of us that don’t live Eva’s glamorous lifestyle) a fresh and girly daytime look. It’s one of those super versatile colours that I’d pop in my daily makeup bag – just in case.
It was so much fun to recreate this look; from seeing my bare face on screen, to trying on the different products and eventually applying the makeup myself. It’s like having a pocket makeup artist! Granted, I still didn’t end up looking quite like Eva – but I certainly gave it my best shot …
Which look will you try? Please do let me know if you use the app, I’d love to see your finished makeup!
Love, Beth xo.
This post is in collaboration with L’Oréal Paris but love of their products and girl crush on Eva Longoria is entirely my own.
