Every success is worthy of celebration.
Life is a series of milestones. We celebrate the obvious ones; birthdays, promotions, new homes. We might celebrate our firsts – the car, the long-term relationship, the holiday we footed the bill for independently. We might celebrate good news and sometimes, the bad too – ‘without darkness, there is no light’. But there is a tendency to mark only the most momentous occasions and my question is, why? Why do we not celebrate more often? Bear with me, I promise this is about more than just the bubbles (though any excuse).
Sometimes I wake up and I’m frantic. What am I doing with my life? Where is my career going? How can I achieve my goals? Should I just up and leave? (To the other side of the world – trust me, I’ve considered it). I have monumental panic attacks where I question everything. I fall into a dangerous rabbit hole of fear and self-doubt, quite often seeing no way out. It’s awful. But the one good thing that has come out of these experiences is that I’ve found a way to ease the anxiety and reassure myself. My solution? To write down objectively (pretty notebooks make all the difference) what I’ve achieved and what the next steps are to get where I want to be. In my mind, it re-establishes direction.
So on a regular basis, I add to my notes and jot down successes and achievements – regardless of how small. Because though they seem small, collectively they add up to make you who you are and contribute to your great success in the long run. Whether it’s in your career, your fitness or your finances, make a note of your successes and mark them as milestones. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t crack out the bubbles every time you hit a target, smash a goal. Treat yourself to a meal out. Even just call a friend and brag. Be proud! Own your success.
There will be a day, a time, a place where you need to know how far you’ve come in order to keep going. Write it down, read it, add to it, read it again.
You’ve got this.
