If you really don't want to read about a juice cleanse (given all the fad-diets and detox posts flying around the internet post-Christmas) and if you really don't agree with/believe in them, close the tab now. But the Dietox 1-Day Winter Cleanse really isn't just any old cleanse and having tried a few myself, I can confidently say this is my favourite batch of juices out of the lot. It doesn't only contain raw fruits and vegetables but plant proteins and superfoods too - something that I've never come across in another cleanse. This makes it extra nutrient dense, far more satisfying, a lot lower in sugar and a source of protein too - a very well balanced nutritional offering that caters for all your body's needs throughout the 24-hour period. I am a big fan.
Whether you want to detox your body from all the Christmas excess or simply reset your digestive system with whole, natural ingredients, the Winter Cleanse is the perfect way to give your body a little reboot, a kickstart for your healthy New Year's Resolutions.
Will I feel hungry throughout the day?
Hunger is a common misconception when it comes to juice cleanses, whether it's for 1 day or a whole week. The idea of a cleanse is not to starve your body or necessarily reduce your intake of energy (though weight-loss specific cleanses are often calorie-restricted). Instead, it's an opportunity for your body to absorb nutrients in their raw form, unprocessed and without any added chemicals. By consuming only liquids for 24 hours, the nutrients are absorbed into your bloodstream at a far quicker rate than solid foods.
But the simple answer is no. After each juice, I felt satiated and only began to feel peckish in the evening, which is usually when I snack on processed, sugary foods at my desk. But one of my favourite things (amongst many) about the Dietox cleanse is that each juice is labelled with the recommended time period for consumption. They are each formulated with ingredients specific to different times of the day, so it's very important (and very helpful) to know which order to have them in. It also means you know when to look forward to the next one!
Can I exercise during the cleanse?
Yes. However, it is advised that you only perform a low-intensity workout as when you'd normally require additional energy after training, you cannot ingest solid foods while juicing. You are permitted to drink water and herbal teas only. Therefore, to avoid feelings of hunger or sickness, intense exercise should be avoided.
On the day of the cleanse, I simply did some light stretching for around half an hour, to ease my muscles from the previous day's workout.
How will it make me feel?
I'm quite sure that juicing isn't for everyone but personally, I like to do a 1-day cleanse every couple of months because it makes me feel fantastic. Whilst I can recognise that I probably couldn't cleanse for more than a day, those 24 hours make me feel light and nourished, banishing any feelings of sluggishness. It truly is like a reset button for the body; reducing bloating, making your skin glow and giving you energy from real, natural foods. And it helps me to sleep better which, given that my nightly average is a maximum of 5 hours, is a very welcome benefit of the cleanse.
I would highly recommend the Dietox 1-Day Winter Cleanse but especially for those who haven't completed one before. Knowing when to have a juice and having all the ingredients and nutritional benefits listed clearly is really helpful and a great introduction to the world of juicing (and the wonders it works on the body).
What do you think about juice cleanses? Have you ever done one yourself?
