There’s something magical about Summer nights - the golden glow as the sun goes down, the heat of a long day giving way to a balmy evening. The warm breeze and the candyfloss sky suggesting that though the day is over, the night has only just begun.
There are BBQs on the beach, people spilling out of pub gardens, community parties on the common. There are burgers, bottles of fruity cider, big swirling ice creams from Mr Whippy, dripping with sauce and sprinkles. There is laughter, chatter, the sound of happiness and excited anticipation for the night ahead.
As people relax and indulge, they let their worries and responsibilities slip away with the sun. There is a collective feeling of freedom.
And with that freedom comes fun. A heady feeling that anything is possible, that seize-the-moment spontaneity, a throw-caution-to-the-wind attitude that allows you to pocket memories like pebbles from the beach.
There's a release within me during the Summer, almost as if I finally take a breath after holding it for so long. I no longer feel stifled by my workload or overwhelmed with life circumstances, it all just seems so much more manageable. I don't feel so guilty for leaving my desk before it gets dark, I agree to picnic lunches, last-minute drinks in pub gardens, holiday plans that come together all-too-quickly but end up being just right, the spontaneity of it all lending a certain magic to the unknown.
I've always found that my best memories, my favourite memories, are created in Summer. Something within me just lets go and my desire to explore and experience becomes even greater.
It will always be my favourite time of year.
It was a pleasure to work with Superdry on this post, wearing pieces from their new Summer collection which is perfect for those hot spontaneous nights. Sporty swimsuits, flowing dresses and printed playsuits that take you from daytime to evening and all the way through to sunrise.
The Night Is Young.
