For some, it’s a classic pair of skinny jeans and a simple white tee. For others, it’s those battered ankle boots that just go with everything. Everyone has a sartorial comfort blanket – a go-to combination or staple piece that just feels easy, safe. For me, it’s an oversized jumper – usually in a neutral colour. I’ll throw it over a pair of skinny jeans or tuck it into an A-Line skirt. I’ll wear it under a sleeveless dress or when I’m at home, loose over a pair of joggers. It’s just so comfortable. And it makes me feel protected, cosy and happy.
As grey is my favourite colour, I probably own 8+ grey jumpers (7 of which are oversized) but this gorgeous cream one from Genevieve Sweeney is definitely a new favourite. ‘New’ meaning it’s only been in my wardrobe for a few weeks – though it feels like years I’ve worn it so much (“Beth, have you even washed it?” exclaimed a friend when I turned up to lunch wearing it again). It’s not often that I’ll rave about a brand on here but when I do, the words just seem to spill out onto the page in my eagerness to share with you.
I first became aware of Genevieve’s gorgeous knitwear on Instagram, when I spotted the beautiful Victoria from In The Frow wearing the ‘Munro’ jumper, a gorgeous cashmere knit with a geometric colour block design. Having browsed the brand’s profile, I instantly fell in love with it. Contrasting textures and unique colour combinations had me at first glance. So when I received an email just a few days later saying that Genevieve wanted to work with me, I had to pinch myself (hard). Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Genevieve herself and having her talk me through the entire collection, describing the extensive production process (each piece is made by hand in a different part of Britain) and giving me an insight into her indisputable passion for knitting, present since her grandparents taught her as a child. Having previously worked for Rag & Bone, Hugo Boss, Burberry and Lyle & Scott (that’s quite the résumé), Genevieve decided to inject her wealth of experience into her own business and so Genevieve Sweeney was born. Although the luxury fibers in her knitwear are sourced from Italy, Genevieve has always been keen to establish her brand as authentically British, supporting small local mills that specialise in custom yarn blends. And it’s these custom yarn blends that give each piece a high-quality, luxury finish.
In the photos above, I’m wearing the ‘Soar Ecru’, a heavily textured rib and mesh boyfriend jumper that has become my second skin. I’ve also got my eye on the ‘Rea‘ and ‘Oban‘ knits, 2 beautiful designs that would slot very nicely into my predominantly-grey wardrobe. I definitely intend to treat myself in the near future.
Although you might pay a premium price, the outstanding quality and timeless designs are worth every penny. And I don’t know about you, but I’d always rather save up for an investment piece instead of buying items of a lower quality more frequently. So if and when you feel like treating yourself, Genevieve has been kind enough to generate the code BethXGS to give you free delivery. Whether you’re spoiling yourself or spoiling a loved one, a piece of this authentic and highly-covetable brand will be yours.
And if you do make a purchase, tag both Genevieve and I and share it with us!
Love, Beth xo.
